About the Training Courses : for Learners

What is a learner?
A learner is anyone who is completing one of the Elklan courses that is being run by a Speech and Language Therapist and/or Specialist Teacher

What courses are available?
Elklan have a range of courses to suit you whether you are a parent, early years worker, teacher or assistant working with children with Speech, Language and Communication Need (SLCN). You can study any of the core courses and then go on to complete one of the specialist courses.

Elklan core courses:

• Speech and Language Support for Under 5s
• Speech and Language Support in the Classroom
• Speech and Language Support for 11-16s
• Communication Support for Children with Complex Needs
• Speech and Language Support for Verbal Children with ASD – a ten week course

Courses for parents/carers/those in school or early years settings who don’t wish to complete a core course:

• Let’s Talk with Under 5s
• Let’s Talk with 5-9s

Specialist courses:

• Supporting Verbal Children with ASD - a five week course
• Supporting Children with Unclear Speech
• Supporting Children with Hearing Difficulties

Are the courses accredited?
The courses are accredited through Open College Network South West Region (GB) or Open College Network Northern Ireland (Ireland). You can study at either level 2, you will receive 6 credits whichever level you decide to study at. You can work towards an Elklan certificate by completing a number of the courses available.
