Boris and Bella’s Washing Day Game

This game encourages development of understanding and the ability to give detailed, complex instructions. The pack contains 2 base-boards and 12 items of clothing (6 small and 6 big images.)

This game is ideal to reinforce key vocabulary and encourage children to understand directions with an increasing number of Information Carrying Words (ICWs).  For example:

  • Show the child just the washing-machine and a variety of clothes all the same size and ask the child to ‘Put the T-shirt in the washing-machine’ (1 x ICW)
  • Show the child the washing-machine and the cupboard and a variety of clothes all the same size and say ‘Put the T-shirt in the washing-machine’ (2 x ICW)
  • This can be made harder by asking the child to find two items of clothing such ‘Put the T-shirt and jumper in the washing-machine’ (3 x ICW)
  • If you use the above example and introduce clothes of different sizes, then the child has to understand a direction containing 4 ICWs.  For example ‘Put the big T-shirt and jumper in the washing-machine’ (4 x ICW)

Contents:

  • 2 x A3 shopping base-boards: washing-machine and cupboard
  • 6 x A5 shopping item cards laminated for the ‘big’ clothing items
  • 6 x A6 character shopping basket sheets laminated for the ‘small’ clothing items

A super resource to build on attention and listening skills. The resource is bright and colourful and attracts the attention of our pupils.

We purchased this item from Small Talk NI and we have used it again and again during small group time throughout the year. The resource is clear, bright and attractive and meaningful to the preschool children. It can be simplified for children struggling with attention and listening, as well as those having difficulty with following instructions, or made more complicated for those more able children. Differentiation made easy!

An excellent preschool language resource!
