A series of practical courses for those of you who are parents or carers of children aged under 5 years

About the series

If you are concerned about your child's communication, language or learning, and want some practical ideas as to how to help them, then the Let’s Talk at Home courses are for you.

These courses will provide you with:

  • Simple tips about how to encourage the speech, language, communication, early maths and early reading development of your child
  • Coaching from an experienced Tutor
  • Visual reminders of each tip and activity ideas to try out at home

Each course has 6 x 1-hour sessions for you and your child. The fun, play based sessions cover a wide range of topics:

Let's Count

Let's Count

Let’s Count has been designed to follow on from Let’s Talk. It will help you to learn about the everyday things that can be done at home to support your child’s early maths development before they start school.

  1. Welcome – meeting again and remembering some key top talking tips

  1. Counting – knowing about numbers is much more than just counting!
3
  1. Space and shape – exploring movement in your child’s indoor and outdoor spaces and learning about shapes and how they fit into different spaces
4
  1. Measuring – comparing everyday things in everyday situations
5
  1. Patterns – increasing awareness of patterns we see like spots and stripes, we hear as in music and rhymes and patterns of time such as night and day

  1. Top Counter - celebrating

Let's Read

Let’s Read has been designed to follow on from Let’s Talk and Let’s Count. It will help you to support your child with the earliest stages of reading and developing a love of books.

  1. Early sequencing – using everyday routines to support language and storytelling

  1. A love of books – choosing and exploring books so your child wants more

  1. Reading is all around – increasing an awareness of all the ways we read and not just books

  1. Rhythm and rhyme – laying the earliest foundations for learning to read

  1. Top Reader - celebrating
