Whole-setting training and accreditation for early years settings
Elklan Communication Friendly Setting (CFSe) accreditation is awarded to settings that have trained and support all their staff in communication and language development. They will also have shown evidence of embedding this knowledge in targeted interventions and through the implementation of a Communication Policy.
One in ten practitioners in the setting complete Speech and Language Support for 0-3s or Speech and Language Support for 3-5s with accreditation at level 3.
One of these practitioners will be equipped by an Elklan tutor to train all the staff in your setting. They are known as the Lead Communication Practitioners (LCP).
The LCP delivers five one-hour-long sessions to ALL staff in your school – this is called Communication Counts. Evidence of embedding the stategies will be confimed by a visit from a peer or an Elklan Tutor at the end of the programme.
Accreditation can be achieved in one year and can be renewed after three years. It is the most cost-effective strategy available for whole-setting capacity building in communication.
We'd welcome an opportunity to talk with you about how your setting can become Elklan Communication Friendly.

Communication Counts is a course written by us which your Lead Communication Practitioner delivers to all the staff in your setting; this includes any administrative staff or lunchtime supervisors, in fact, anyone who speaks with the children! We provide the teaching notes, mentoring and resources to facilitate this and support the LCP to achieve level 4 accreditation. Your LCP won’t attend another course but will analyse the embedding and impact of the training in your setting.
The five sessions cover:
