Training for SaLTs and Specialist Teachers: Elklan Total Training Package for Post 16s

Elklan have developed a highly successful accredited ten week course for Post 16s practitioners, Speech and Language Support for Post 16s.

Webinar-based training

Elklan is responding imaginatively at this time, ensuring we can continue to offer training for colleagues to become Elklan tutors. We are sure that our webinar-based Training Package will enable you to be confident in your delivery of this Elklan course in your locality. Train now and be prepared and ready to deliver this exciting course when lockdown ends.

How does it work?

Elklan has made the course Speech and Language Support for Post 16s available via e-learning. You will be given access to these sessions to work through in your own time. You will also attend 4 x 2.5-3 hour webinars on consecutive afternoons. We suggest that the mornings are used to view the e-learning and prepare for the afternoon sessions.

The webinars will cover:

  • Questions concerning the content of the relevant e-learning sessions
  • Preparing you as an assessor by practicing the marking of sample submissions
  • Understanding the accreditation procedure
  • Course administration
  • Exploring the Elklan website

You will be sent the training manual and Language Builders book in advance of the webinars.

By the end of the training, you will be equipped and ready to run Elklan training in your locality.

How can I become a licensed tutor?

When you attend this Elklan Total Training Package (TTP) you will be given everything you need to teach the course.

The TTP will cover all the content of the course, and you will receive information on:

  • How Elklan works
  • How to deliver a course that is externally quality assured and accredited by an OfQual regulated national Awarding Orgnisation
  • How to assess learners' work
What do SaLT trainees say about our TTPs?

If you are an SaLT no more training is required to teach the other programmes! Education colleagues may be able to teach other course without a SaLT tutor, see our policy for more information.

On-going support

As an Elklan tutor, you enter into a large network of others who are all seeking to fulfil the same aims as you in meeting the needs of children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN). You will receive ongoing support and advice from Elklan who will answer your queries about delivering courses.

Training with others

Elklan supports collaborative practice and is keen to promote SaLTs and specialist teachers training together. However we are aware that this is not always possible so many SaLTs train on their own and we are currently enabling specialist teachers who meet certain criteria to train in isolation. The following downloads will give more information on the requirements and procedure.
