Let's Communicate Together

Let's Communicate Together

Let's Communicate Together

A practical training course for parents and carers supporting children aged 3-6 years presenting with social communication differences.

Let's Communicate Together helps parents and carers understand how their child with social communication differences communicates, and how to support them to connect, understand, and express themselves with confidence.

The course explores how communication develops, including:

  • Early and non-verbal communication (body language, gestures, vocalisations).
  • How children process language and use echolalia or “scripts.”
  • Gestalt and analytical language development, understanding your child’s unique communication pathway.
  • How sensory processing impacts communication and behaviour.
  • Using structure, visuals, and play to support understanding and social interaction..

You’ll learn practical strategies to make communication easier and more meaningful, at home, in play, and in everyday routines.

2

Supporting Communication Differences: Understand how to tune in to your child’s individual communication style. Explore practical strategies to follow their lead, use meaningful repetition, support echolalia, and create positive, shared interactions through play and movement.

3

Processing Sensory Information and Communication: Learn how sensory experiences affect communication, behaviour, and regulation. Discover the seven senses, identify sensory preferences or challenges, and find everyday ways to help your child feel calm, safe, and ready to connect.

4

Using Strengths and Structure to Support Understanding: Find out how to use structure, routine, and visuals to help your child understand the world around them. From visual timetables and objects of reference to predictable routines, you’ll learn tools to reduce anxiety and build confidence.

5

Developing Positive Social Interaction: Explore how to support social play in a way that values your child’s communication differences. Learn about solitary, parallel, and cooperative play, and how to create opportunities for shared enjoyment without pressure.

6

Sharing Books and Engagement in Learning: Discover fun, motivating ways to share books and learning experiences that match your child’s interests. Learn how to follow their lead, use visual supports, and encourage language and understanding through stories, songs, and play.
